Both secular drug rehab centers and Christian drug addiction rehabilitation programs place a heavy emphasis upon counseling and therapy. An addict will receive individual counseling as well as participate in group therapy sessions.

Gay friendly drug rehabs are drug rehabs who are generally capable of addressing the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender community. By gay friendly, we refer to drug rehabs whose staff are trained in the areas of homophobia, internalized homophobia, sexual orientation, as well as, have dealt with any their issues relating to prejudice, discrimination and alienation.

By gay friendly we refer to a drug rehab program that has addiction treatment staff trained to address some issues specific to the gay population. While it is true that the gay man or woman is no different than a heterosexual man or woman, the LGBT do live lifestyles and have issues to resolve that are uncommon to the heterosexual population. If we really want to get a handle on it, we're going to have to get it out of the medicine cabinets, and get those already having a problem into medical drug detox, followed by a drug rehab program if needed.

By medically based we are referring to a drug detox program that is located within a drug rehab and has 24 hour nursing, 24 hour drug rehab staff and a physician trained in addiction medicine.

Drug rehabilitation or therapy is a procedure. In most instances persons will be admitted into a stay at a medical unit/facility and will go through a succession of examinations, tests, questions, analyses etc., etc. Now although these people undergo a phalanx of questions and tests, in the end, the ultimate aim is to help the patient to purge their bodies of the toxic drugs that at one time impaired their judgment and ability to function appropriately and also to subsequently permit them regain control of their lives, thereby allowing them full realization that toxic drugs are unimportant, unnecessary and bad/harmful.

Don't expect anyone to get off drugs, and stay off them, with only a few weeks of drug rehab. Sometimes it can take months to get to the bottom of things and enable the person to really get a handle on it. If you know someone who is going to drug rehab to handle their drug addiction problem, don't let them go through treatment that just lets them dry out for a while. Find a drug rehab program that gets people through their underlying problems.
